We believe Greater China is one of the main manufacturing regions of the world, that is just starting to grow on the international scene, and that the vast potentials of its internal market have only started to develop. This is why we base ourselves and choose to focus our resources in Greater China.
China focused
With a head office located in Hong Kong, SLI is a Greater China centric organization. Greater China is our home base, and where we deploy from. As a consequence, we own and operate ourselves all our offices in Greater China, and regularly train our people to the highest international standards of the freight forwarding & logistics industry.
Moreover our E-commerce fulfillment services are based in Greater China, from where we ship domestically, Asia-wide, and globally. Our corresponding warehouses, where we store your cargo, and the logistics solutions we offer you are also based in Greater China. Due to the nature of transportation, and its global exposure requirements, our global network of agents is an ideal complement to that strong Greater China base.
Class A forwarder’s license
As it is our base, we have chosen to be forwarding and logistics experts in Greater China territory. Very early on, one of our investments and commitments has been the highest level of license available in China: a “Class A” forwarder’s license. SLI has been granted a Class A forwarder’s license by the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) for its international freight forwarding operations in the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
So SLI China offices are 100% owned and operated by SLI, without any JV requirement. It is to be noted that this is a strategic move and a strong financial investment for a relatively small freight forwarding & logistics player such as SLI. Being committed to being a leader in Greater China, the Class A license reinforces SLI ability to meet customers’ logistics and supply chain needs within Greater China.
The Class A license designation means SLI is able to directly provide international freight forwarding (sea, air, truck, rail) and logistics services. These include NVOCC operations, warehousing, bonded warehousing, packaging, distribution and transhipment of goods, consolidation, customs and insurance brokerage, cargo in transit, as well as related international freight forwarding services.
SLI fully controls and manages the logistics process within China, including cargo movements and invoicing. It is to be noted that freight forwarders without a Class A license must outsource those activities to local parties. SLI can book freight space directly with carriers, creating a strong foundation for its international logistics business generated from/ to China. In addition, SLI has registered its bill of lading, which is recognized by banks throughout China for letters of credit and can be issued for shipments to and from the country.
